Holidays with the family in Uganda will embody the principles of slow travel by choosing a few key destinations instead of rushing between national parks. Traveling with kids in Uganda needs that you have a tour guide and driver on your journeys. One will focus on safe driving and the other takes care of the young ones.

Uganda national parks to visit with children

Savanna national parks are the best to visit on holidays with family in Uganda. These include Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo national parks. You will be able to participate in game drives and boat cruise safaris to see elephants, Nubian giraffes, and plains zebras. Those going to Murchison Falls should include a stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to see rhinos. The canopy walk at Sambiya River Lodge in Murchison falls is friendly for children of 6-7 years old. However, it’s best to check with the lodge. Lake Mburo offers unique things to do such as a walking safari, cycling and horseback rides tailored for children.

The right time for holidays with family, Uganda

The best time for a family safari in Uganda is during the dry seasons. From June to September and December to February. Road conditions are better, getting around is smoother and faster. Wildlife viewing is also good including gorilla and chimpanzee trekking.

Family friendly accommodation

Look for accommodations that cater to families. Many lodges offer interconnecting rooms where parents can enjoy privacy while still being close to their children. Sleeping arrangements also matter. A single room can accommodate a family of 4-5 people. Some offer rooms with four single beds or twin beds to share.

Mihingo Lodge in Lake Mburo N.P. accepts kids below 2 years. Therefore, baby and toddler friendly lodge. Usually, these babies share with an adult thus accommodated freely. Kids above 12 years are considered adults and are subject to the full rate of accommodation while those between the age of 3 & 12 who are sharing an adult’s room, 50 percent of the full adult fee will be charged.
